Jennifer Aniston is classic, grade-A fitness inspiration. In fact, I'd argue that she's as well known for her commitment to healthy living as she is for her perfect hair. So when I got a chance to ask her a few questions about her head-to-toe health regime, I obviously jumped at the chance. Check out what she has to say about her desert-island workout, her go-to healthy snack combo, and the one surprising body part she totally neglected for years.
Her reaction to: "If you had to choose one workout for the rest of your life, what would it be?"
Aww... Awww! That's a Sophie's Choice question! One workout for the rest of my life?! So I've been doing this workout with this amazing woman named Taryn Toomey. Her class is called The Class. And I could see doing that for the rest of my life. It's like a yoga boot camp. It's incredible. (Kate Hudson's a fan too!)
The three things she always has in her fridge:
I always have artichokes in the fridge that I snack on, and they're really good cold. (Don't know how to cook them? We've got you covered.) And I dip them in mustard. That's a nice healthy snack. It's Dijon mustard, [so] it's a nice little kick. And I'll always have some sort of a vegetable, like cut celery or cucumbers. Those are my go-to crunchy, refreshing sort of cold snacks.
How she'd squeeze in a workout in 10 minutes or less:
If I only had 10 minutes, I'd do the Burn—where you do a minute run, a minute sprint, a minute walk, a minute run, a minute sprint. [Repeat] for 10 minutes on and off. It really gives your metabolism a nice jolt! (Here's another great quickie option from Shaun T.)
The interview question that changed her life: "Do you have anything that you're addicted to?"
I was doing an interview and it was just one of those random questions... And for some reason out of nowhere, it popped into my head and I was like, 'I'm addicted to eye drops.' I used eye drops constantly, pretty much all day, and over the years it has gotten progressively worse... My eyes would be irritated and red constantly, and they'd itch. It was a pretty brutal thing. And I've always just attributed it to allergies or that it was just that I had sensitive eyes.
Then someone said, 'You should go to your doctor and see if you have dry eye.' So I went to my doctor and took the exam, and sure enough it turned out that's what I had and I didn't even know it was a thing! I had to wean myself off the over-the-counter drops, which eventually stop doing what they're supposed to do anyway, and then I started to do more artificial tears to get my eyes back to normal... it was such a relief!
Aniston recently teamed up with Shire plc to get the word out about the importance of eye health. For more information, head to myeyelove.com
